Why does it seem so difficult?
There is no feeling like parenthood, from the moment you realize you’re about to become one, to seeing your kids grow up. The love of God is the mirror of every of our relationships even between parents and their children. Love is in all spheres of relationships. The reason it might seem so difficult to relate well with your children is because you have not received the love of God into your mind. God is the centre of all our relationships. He has created the best relationship with us and he has called us ‘sons’. He is the best parent to learn from. If your mind has not taken it in and reasoned it, you cannot manifest it. Parenting is simply how we relate with our children. Parenting can actually be described as the process of raising, promoting, supporting, encouraging and teaching a child from infancy to adulthood. It also includes the emotional, intellectual, social and physical development of the child.
“Parenting is not for sissies. You have to sacrifice and grow up.”
It involves having a great deal of fine detail or complexity of the child. Parenting involves nurturing a child which is the act of nursing(tender care), educating and training a child.
“Encourage and support your kids because children are apt to live up to what you believe of them.”
Lady Bird Johnson
Factors influencing parenting
Parenting skills varies and a parent with good parenting skills is referred to as a good parent. It varies from culture to culture. There are so many things that influence the growth of a child in a society. The environment and it’s culture has a very big influence in child development. Culture has both negative and positive influence on parenting. The environment if it is not right can affect a child’s development negatively. Other influential factors includes experience, psychopathology of the parent and family social class. A family’s social class also plays a large role in the opportunity and resources that will be made available to a child. Middle class and upper class are opportuned to networking through family members, friends and community than lower class. Parenting takes a lot of patience and work. Good parents must be patient with their children. Parenting changes per time due to advancement in the society we live in so it is important that we pay attention to the society we live in.
How does God nurture his children ?
The Bible talks about parenting which involves nurturing and not provoking children to wrath. It also involves admonition.
Ephesians 6:4 (KJV) And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the lord.
Colossians 3:21 (KJV) Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
God is our father and he doesn’t correct his children in anger. There’s nothing wrong in correcting your children but correcting in anger is not like God. If anybody should be free with you, your children should. God gave us freedom. Your children should be able to enjoy freedom with you too. A good parent brings up(nurture) his/her children and not discourage them. We parent the way God has parented us. God reveals his mind to his children. You should not make your kids look insignificant. Explain situations to them in best possible way you can such that they can be independent and have independent minds kids are intelligent and they are tend to use ‘why’ so well. They want to ask you why they cannot do a lot of stuffs. You should be able to show them things in clarity. A parent is a teacher as I have said earlier. You will be doing a lot of teaching and they have to be the right values. If parents do not have the right values, they cannot teach it. Children will always pull pranks and do a lot of things like we do to God. It is important that we do not correct them in violence just like God. Build your children with words just like God does to us. They are not just words but words of faith. Words that will build them up and not tear them apart. Never make them lose their self-esteem by your words. Surround every child with faith and love. Lead them to Christ, that is a parent’s first duty. God believes the best about us and that is how we should raise our children. God’s love has not failed in raising us so showing love to your children will not make you fail as a parent. Always remember that you are a teacher as parents . Right values are important to you. This is what parenting is:nurturing, admonishing, promoting, supporting, encouraging and teaching a child right values.
In our next post(nextweek), we will be talking elaborately on parenting practices and values. Follow us on this cruise.
